Karma Hunter Spotlight: Hamuko
- Who are you?
I am Hamuko, a 21-year-old student from northern Finland.
- What do you do in your daily life?
I’m a student but I’m currently doing some sort of entrepreneurial programming work for local small companies in the form of application and website development on the side. Hopefully I will be able to land a job in the IT field in the future when (and if) I graduate.
- Where are your IGDB.com nickname and avatar from?
My nickname comes from the Japanese nickname for the female protagonist in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, which in return comes from very liberal reading of the word “female protagonist” in Japanese. The avatar is just a piece of art portraying her that has caught my eye in a positive way.
- How did you join IGDB.com? What has made you stick around?
I actually found IGDB by doing a Google search for “video game database”, as I needed one with an API to catalog all of my games. All of the results before IGDB were rubbish and/or did not have an open API, so I discarded those sites within the first five minutes. IGDB on the other hand seemed to work well and there was the option to use the game data through an API. Coincidentally, that game catalogue project is still pretty much as far away as it was back then. Oh well.
- What are you hoping to see on the site in the future?
Hopefully the site will get some features to ease data entry for contributors. I’ve already sent some suggestions over to the dev team on my thoughts and I hope I get to see something to that line soon.
- What video games are you playing at the moment and what video games do you think have been the most influential on your person?
Currently I’m playing Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed on the Playstation Vita. All of the loading times aside, it’s a fun game and fits the Vita quite well despite not using any of its gimmicks. I mean, who doesn’t want to fight vampires by stripping off their clothes?
Epic combat comes in many forms when it’s Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed!
I’m not sure if I have a favorite game, but I think the most influential one on me is World of Warcraft going by just the sheer number of hours I’ve sank into that game. Although Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES is a good contender, since I have so many fond memories of it from my childhood.
- What games do you dislike?
Despite doing most of my gaming on consoles these days, I’m not a fan of console FPS games. The controllers are quite ill-suited for it and in the recent years the games have been more or less just clones of each other. I’m also not a fan of sport games, especially when they keep selling the same game with minor changes.
- Do you have any other hobbies than gaming? Where can we see more of you?
Outside of gaming, my time is usually spent working with computers or watching anime. Online, my presence is pretty much centered around my Twitter profile.
- What would you like to tell the team and community of IGDB.com specifically?
I’d tell both of them to keep up the good work. Thus far the site has been building up very nicely in my opinion.
