Team Member Spotlight: Sharpless

Who are you?

I am Sharpless512 from a city-no-one-would-know-by-name in Belgium! I am 23 and work as a programmer and a test engineer at my day job.

Is there any story behind your nickname?

Oh yeah! It’s from a documentary about army stuff I saw years ago, where one of the army guys had “Sharpless” as their last name. How cool is that! So I adopted it for myself – it fits me well, because I love playing the sniper and doing stealth missions in video games.

What do you do at

I don’t do one specific thing, but help out in a lot of different tasks. I started out with only design, but nowadays I’m doing a lot more: I work with the front-end coding and design, I do some of the marketing, I answer support e-mails… So I work closely together with everyone! Recently I’ve worked with the website design, trying to figure out how to make it look sweet and simultaneously keep it simple.

What motivates you to continue working with

It’s so nice to work on something that can be really big. I think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it would obviously be so great to succeed. We have built this site from the ground up, and it’s something to be proud of! It’s been really rewarding to be part of the process and part of a great team. Everyone has great input and you are free to give and get feedback on everything. On the other hand, I play games, so that’s equally nice: I’m a really excited user in addition to being part of the team!

What are you hoping to see on the site in the future?

I’d love to get started on an eSports feature, where users could create and join clans that could hold their own tournaments and scoreboards. But honestly, all our ideas that are cooking are really really good. I’m excited about all our features that are already coming out and the ones still in planning stages!

What video games are you playing at the moment?

Right now, I’m really into Rust (…okay, our base just got raided, now I stopped playing this) and Project Reality, which is a mod for Battlefield 2 – it’s the predecessor of Squad which @krazyjakee mentioned in their interview, and has an awesome premise: it’s essentially a 64vs64 with tanks, helicopters, infantry, in-game radios… Teams work together to capture objectives and players are designated certain tasks. The matches can take some three hours! It’s amazing. I’m also a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 player, and I’m obviously playing Fallout 4 at the moment. I just got a new graphics card too, which allows me to play it on high graphics! I love to play stealth, tactical and shooter-type video games… my favourites are Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Have you worked with other projects that have to do with games, beyond

My allegiance lies with IGDB!!! No, I haven’t done anything else recently. I have used Unity to make small games before, but I quickly lose interest with them to go the extra mile to make good gameplay and not merely a nice looking game. I also have a youtube channel (now inactive), mostly with Battlefield videos. I really liked making cinematic trailer videos! My most popular videos are called Battlefield Mythbusters.

The beginning of a series! Go check it out!

Do you have any hobbies, besides gaming?

I do some sports; I like to swim, run and do fitness – I get easily bored of them too, though. I also like watching movies and television shows. Pulp Fiction is my favourite movie, along with The Wolf of Wall Street, Inception and Saving Private Ryan.

Oh and Social Network! I’ve always thought it could also be the story of IGDB, the thrill of making it big…!

Official poster for The Social Network (2010). Minus the making enemies part it’s precisely as thrilling within our dev team, true fact.

On television, I like to watch Breaking Bad, House of Cards and Game of Thrones.
