Member Spotlight: Abnerx
- Who are you?
I am Abnerx, I am 35 years old and the newest member of the team behind IGDB.com!
- What do you do at IGDB.com?
I am a back-end developer, which means that I work with the server-side code of the site. Currently I am the Ruby on Rails expert of the team and have been making the upcoming badges system possible, but I might soon branch out to other tasks in addition to RoR development!
I have been involved in video games since early age and it is really big for me to be part of a significant project to gaming that touches on all the elements I like as a person, but that can also be of benefit to other people. It is really inspiring to be involved in a project that grows according to its community!
- What are you hoping to see on the IGDB.com site in the future?
I can find many of my hopes and goals in the vision for the site itself: for IGDB.com to become a comprehensive resource for everything video game related, that one place where you can find everything you need.
A more specific personal goal is to make the site a source of information not only for right now, but also about the past. I would like to see the timeline become a tool that allows a user to not only see how Nintendo is faring in today’s reviews, but to also see things like the huge criticism for Nintendo that was taking place in the reviews of the 80s’.
- Have you worked with other projects that have to do with games, beyond IGDB.com?
I’ve worked with amateur game development and projects for different gaming communities, such as emulating and translating many big titles.
- What are your hobbies and interests?
Honestly, very video game-related! I am a huge fan of RPGs and specifically of JRPGS like the Final Fantasy Franchise. I also used to be an active figure in one of the top 25 guilds in World of Warcraft.
My favorite game!
If I could be anything at all, I’d love to be an RPG-designer. It would be so cool to get story-based DLCs to JRPGS, so that you could follow the story of the same character throughout a series. Often I feel that at the end of an RPG title I have finally figured things out and I’m really invested with the story, only to soon have it all end in a very unrewarding manner when that particular game ends. I want to continue that story in other titles of the series, too!
- Anything you want to tell the community specifically?
Stay tuned, it is going to be so cool! If I could, I would tell every user in person this: we are going to be very transparent with everything we do – this is a project for gamers by gamers, truly.
If you have a question you’d like to ask this member that was not covered by the spotlight, feel free to do so in this thread!
